A local political party is an organization, one of whose fundamental purposes is to participate in public affairs by endorsing one or more candidates in a local jurisdiction and supporting their election. A slate of candidates is a group of two or more candidates whose fundamental purpose is to support the election of the slate’s candidate members. Local political parties and slates who intend to participate in the next Edmonton election scheduled for October 20, 2025 must register with the local jurisdiction before they or any person acting on their behalf can accept contributions or incur campaign expenses. Edmonton Elections has a legislated responsibility to receive and process registration applications from political parties and slates, and to maintain a publicly accessible register of local political parties and slates.
